The Story behind Post Orla

Orla was a woman who’s anxiety and depression prevented her from seeing all the wonderful things that everyone else saw in her. A week before she took her life, she asked a friend what they would do if they were stuck and needed someone. The friend answered “I’d ring you.”

A few months later, Orla’s friends looked for ways to celebrate her wonderful spirit. One of the ideas was to create an ‘affirmation wall’, where people could post messages about the person they would ring if they were in need. Modelled on postsecret.com, they worked with the North Leitrim Women’s centre to design postcards for people to write and send in these messages. They hope to create an exhibition of these messages, as part of an event to commemorate Orla’s life and work.

If you wish to participate, you can start by downloading one of our postcard templates. If you are not sure whether to mention anyone’s name, it would be best to keep it anonymous – your postcard might even have more impact that way. When you are ready, scan your postcard and email it to inbox@postorla.org, or print it and sent it to:
